Chakras and Endocrine glands

This is a powerful meditation that comes from the Sufis, the Muslim mystics.   It uses the breath to cleanse and enliven your whole energy system.   It is done with the eyes closed and either sitting cross-legged or standing feet hip width apart and knees slightly bent.  Feel free to let the breath move your body.

The breathing is done to the sound of a live recording (hence the sound quality).   The exercise consists of 3 cycles of breathing lasting 10 minutes each.  It is best done in the morning on an empty stomach.

Throughout the exercise, breathe in and out through the mouth, directing you attention towards the chakra in question and following the rhythm on the CD, as best you can.

Focus only on the exhale and let the inhale occur spontaneously

Each cycle starts with the repeated chanting of a mantra that activates the various energy centres and sounds something like this: LA NI A MO HEY! HI NA MA A HO! (don’t worry about the exact words, just let the sounds resonate through you).

  1. When the chanting is done, start breathing towards the root chakra.
  2. When the bell rings, start breathing towards the second chakra
  3. When the bell rings, start breathing towards the solar plexus chakra.
  4. When the bell rings, start breathing towards the heart chakra.
  5. When the bell rings, start breathing towards the throat chakra.
  6. When the bell rings, start breathing towards the third eye chakra
  7. When the bell rings, start breathing towards the Crown chakra.
  8. Then the bell will ring three times and you start taking the breath down through all 7 chakras on your own time over a period of approximately 2 minutes.  You can just follow the breathing on the CD.

This cycle is repeated 2 more times (you can stop after the first or second cycle but you will not get as much out of the exercise).

At the end of the last cycle, keep the eyes closed for a few minutes, remain still and feel what is happening inside.
